Nicole in the Loony Bin

April 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

Nicole’s court-ordered regimen mandated two daily sessions of group therapy. One for survivors of rape and incest and the other for those with violent impulses. Most of her fellow inmates were just like her. They came from moneyed backgrounds and they were royally screwed up.

One patient, a 14 year old boy, proclaimed he was the reincarnation of Genghis Khan. That delusion, along with a severe Oedipal complex, led him to attack his father with a battle axe which he’d pried off the wall of the family den. He was especially impressed with Nicole for succeeding where he had failed.

Another, a 29 yr. old woman, continually railed at Nicole for her looks, ranting that beauty was the root of all evil. Perhaps it was in her case since she’d been molested by her father, grandfather and three brothers. The poor woman’s body bore the scars of countless self-inflicted knife wounds and cigarette burns.

Nicole was shocked to see a famous Hollywood actor at Dr. Young’s therapy group. Turns out he’d taken a recent movie role a little too seriously and was convinced that he was the head psychiatrist at the hospital. He loved to strut his stuff to new patients by reciting a litany of psycho-babble regarding their problems.

Unfortunately, he took a morbid interest in Nicole’s case and acted out the scene of stabbing her father. From the heights of silver screen to the depths of loony bin, Nicole thought, as the men in white coats led him away.
